Now that you have built, optimised and submitted your site to search engines, instead of waiting around, it's time to explore other methods of promotion that can provide immediate results.
Umm. Tell real, live people about it. But please, don't treat everybody as a potential business prospect - it reeks of desperation. Think of them as a person first. Just gently introduce it into a conversation. It's easiest if you are actually proud of your business, or shock, even making money out of it.
Where legal, use leaflets. Letterbox drops, shopping centre noticeboards, childcare centres. Obey 'No junk mail' signs. Be creative. Include your website address rather than your phone number, to ward off lazy crank calls and ensure a minimum of web access.
Make your own business card. Most printers can handle stiff cardboard - you can buy sheets of blank business cards to fit in your printer. Many word processors will have a pre-formatted layout you can use. Otherwise just setup your own table to the correct measurements that your business cards use.
Include your website as part of your email signature. Every bit helps. Use your signature in emails, forums (where allowed), reviews, questions to ezines - everywhere. Build a fancy banner and include that as part of your signature.
See the startpage, safelist, ezine, payperclick sections in the menu, as techniques for getting people/traffic to your site.
FFAs and classifieds are generally too much effort for little response.
Make sure you automate the process as much as possible using autoresponders.
